However the problem with the "have a chat and see how we get along" approach is that it favors the good bullshitter. Someone who is confident and up to speed on all the buzzwords and new languages will beat a diligent programmer every time. When this person starts the job they may not have the necessary technical skills to actually be a useful contributor. <br /><br />I think you need to make sure that they can code first.
